uv basically stands for ultra violet which is far beyond our naked eyes..
here UV stands for Uthama Villain, a really good emotional movie with lot of inbuilt stuffs. This blog tries to make you see the uv (ultra violet) inside the UV (Uthama Villain)..
This blog has not only my thoughts, but also thoughts from some other blogs which I read, trying to explain in more detail.
Ok. lets begin...and try to link the two stories in the movie.
In this film I loved the screenplay and its the crux of the movie. Another movie told me that screenplay also have gone to next level. Few other movies like Ayudha ezhuthu, Virumaandi have already told the same..
The movie begins with Kamal Haasan voice with a picture of Balachandar. Really good praising and truthful words. Here if see the shot, you have Ashoka pillar with lions. You see one lion missing in camera (faced in opposite site). That lion is none other than Balachander in the background. Good thinking in the shot.
Kamal Haasan comes in a car to the mall in the first scene..
Two or three scenes Kamal Haasan car is shown which has M in its number plate.. depicting Manoranjan..
His face is not shown for a long time which is followed by many mass hero's in many of the film and the same is depicted in the movie. In first song, you can see a slow motion shot, a costly location, etc.. which many does now. He is either aged for that kind of dance or he really made it for us to notify the mistakes in dance.. I am not sure about that. But everything he made there was for fantasy attraction which nowadays hero's make to attract audience. After the song, his son scolds him pointing out all these facts. So the total song tells how bad nowadays hero's (like Manoranjan) are.. I mean they don't do for an art but just for money.
Manoranjan faints in the bathroom, when Chokku comes, the liquor bottle will be down with some liquor spill which tells it happened just before, when he makes him sits in the basin, he accidentally hits the flush and it flushes..During Margadharshi meet, when Aparna asks where is the rest room, Margadharshi did not get it and Manoranjan tells its bathroom.. and many scenes like this.. even small small scenes are taken care well.
I read like there was producer who did something bad to Kamal very long back in the name related to Poorna Chandra Roa and that could be a reason he made the same name as an hijacker for the masala films.
You might not like the whole movie, but I am sure you will be dissolved in a few scenes by the artists acting one such scene is the first meet with Zachariah (Jayaram) about Yamini. Brilliant performance by Kamal.
When he comes to know about his end time, he decides to do the last best film with Margadharshi and he goes to him. Good solution to use Nagesh voice for him. Balachander has did great; more than what I thought, nice and realistic. The photos in the room, the bonding between them, BGM were really good. In the end of this scene, Balachander will ask him to sit in his seat. Its kind of Kamal taking Sivaji seat in Thevar Magan. Means he will take the responsibility of that chair (he already took). As per the film, Manoranjan last film was with Margadharshi and in real its the vice versa Balachander last film with Kamal Haasan. RIP.

Now the film inside the film starts giving a good explanation for title. Followed by a excellent opening of that Villupaatu with Gibran. In this song, a snake bites four of them and fifth victim is Uthaman. The 4 dies and Uthaman survives. The reason is told in the song that the snake does not have much venom to kill 5 and its a scientific fact.
The villupaatu tells about Arjuna getting his wish from Lord Shiva. In our case, Uthaman gets his Mruthunjayam wish by that song. He dies and comes back next day (a moon will be shown) to eat, where he comes in a windy scene winking his eyes because of sand breeze. it was natural...Peiku Peiku Pei music.. was good which blended with film. Mruthunjayan is hit and he again come back and gets whatever he wants. he asks for water.. he gets it.. he wants to be saved from crocodile.. another crocodile comes and rescues him. He wants to be alive in the falls and he did. It's a process of telling he is an Mruthunjayan.
The same shot is seen (Mano in ready make up of next shot) in director display. Meanwhile Manonmani comes to meet Mano with Zachariah. Chokku knocks the window and Mano pops out. Many would have not noted a guy holding a black reflector to make Mano reflectable in the window.
Door is opened and Zachariah with an imaginary background comes. When Zachariah excuses and leaves, the background changes to real one. Hope you understand the scene explains that Zachariah is imaginary and Mano is the real father.
Even though in the conversation they both tell that Manonmani is not like father Mano, she sits exactly in the same position and style as her father telling that's the truth anyways. In the mirror you cannot see Manonmani telling the relation according to her is not complete and she is not ready to come inside Mano's relation as a daughter. See the modern art in the room, it tells Mano's position.
The next story starts where Mutharasan (Bad Kamal) comes into picture ditching the real King. The comedy track must have been improved, which I felt is the main and only drawback in this film. Mutharasan hears about Uthaman and asks him to bring. While coming "Kallu vaangarayo kallu" song blended good and the dialog "Kamban magale.." was a good timing. In this story line whenever Mutharasan is there, loud music will be there by cheerleaders which tells today's mass hero's creating sounds in the scenes they appear. Uthaman will go for a shave, which is not proper in the first time (those days we don't have sharp blades and we have to repeat it to get a smart shave). The Ministers will test him by pushing him inside the water. He survives by a fishing net. Did you notice the fisherman.. he is none other than our Ottran. The next scene he bleeds and they show a dying fish, which tells the life time of Mano
Next to that Kamal is chased by Tiger, later he rides on it.. this matches with the real story where Manonmani does not like Mano and later she understands him. The shot now comes to real story where Chokku reads the letter which came to Yaamini. In this seen, the screen has the title "Uthama Villain" where Mano's shadow will be standing near the word Villain and slowly comes to real full light when the good Mano is revealed in the letter.
You can see that Mano's son dropping the easy catch on hearing his problem. When he asks about what he has to do.. He tells screenplay to talk about him. This basically reminds me Kamal writing screenplay for Sivaji in Thevar magan (the best movie Sivaji did in his later ages, no one could give him a better script other than Bharathi raaja and Kamal). Kamal has mentioned that we did not use such a great actor in later stages often and that's true..Kamal also try to tells for himself that he needs a better story and screenplay than usual masala scripts going on. He cries with his son telling his fans the private time.. awesome scene. relationship between son and father well expressed.
Followed by my favorite lyrics "Saagavaram" (blended with situation). Note that the lyrics tells about the universe, life, sun, earth, planets, etc etc.. and the worst part being Mrinthunjayan. Lend your ears to feel the whole years he lived and going to live. Kamal could have used 9 dancers surrounding him.. to tell the 9 planets.. but he did not do.. :(
Next scene the Ottran comes and gives a dialogue like "Mannaridam ivalavu pesiyathe adigam" . Note that Mannar is none other than our Uthaman there which we know at the end only and he is the fisherman and means that he is with Uthaman from start to end.
Oorvasi did great in that hospital scene. In the other part of story, Mutharasan asks for Mruthunjayan manthram and Uthaman tells that art is the best way and same matches with the real world too. Followed by the letter for Yaamini by Mano read by Manonmani. This is very class scene. Even though Manonmani now likes Mano, she still did not accept him as a father. Mano is still a villain for her. Mano with strange makeups gives the letter. She starts reading it and slowly the letter revels the truth and so do
Mano reveals his real face and smiles.. what a masterclass scene. wow. later after a funny misunderstanding, he see the happiness of the family from the glass. bliss. with powerful wording. "Yen Uthirathin Vithai" which tends to be common for both current world and the story of Pragaladhan. great lyrics.
The song shooting is at end.. Mano gets dizzed and he fells down seeing a shadow calling him at death troll and Mano nods his head.
After that is the master piece song / drama whatever you call it as.. wow.. my 120 rs was worth for this song alone. ultimate makeup and performance. The make up artists and the dance coreographers do it only for an ART not just for money. In fact they told that no one must smoke or drink when acting in this. The whole crew followed it and Kamal did not even take any non veg inside that room. This is how we have to respect ART, may be any ART. and the result was awesome. great work.

Now all has this question, why the Pragalathan story is changed here and let me try to explain by how I understood myself and through other blogs. Note Uthaman told that this is not pragalathan puranam.. its irangyan puranam (avan appan puranam).

if the same is shown here.. as per the characters
Mutharasan will come and kill Uthaman and thus the bad will win.. which is not right.
so its shown in other way round. the concept is Uthaman and Pragaladhan are united and in the real world the bad Mano dies and the good Mano lives in the heart of all.
And if you see, after this scene the Ottran revleals that Uthaman is the Raja and did you notice where Uthaman comes from ? ya he comes from the pillar where Narashiman comes out originally. Basically Good Mano kills the Bad Mano himself is the catch.
Mano is shown full bald in this song. In the previous scenes itself, Margadharshi will be told that Chemo has started which was the clue. When Mano fells down, Pragaladhan will spell "Insha Allah", Manonmani is been protected and raised by a Christian, where he mixes all togather which I felt good.
When Mano is taken to hospital, Margadharshi worked on ART rather than going to hospital as Mano likes the same (passion of ART).
In real life, when Balachandar passed away, Kamal was doing the ART rather than coming to India (many accused him, but the real person know the passion for his ART). and I am sure Balachandar would have wished the same.
When doctors know the result, the rest of the world are happy with Mano and laughing and enjoying the artists (as he asked Margadharshi that my sorrow go with myself and others must laugh ) and Mano become Mruthujayan finally. The final words in Kamal voice was great "Maalathathu kalaiyum ... Sagavaram pol sogam undooooo..."
Compare / Contrast :
Mutharasan ditches the real King to come up.
In the real story Mano came up ditching Margadharshi.
Mutharasan is fond of womens and so do Mano here.
Mutharasan tries to hide the ear problem to the outside world so do Mano hides his tumor.
Mutharasan asks the prophets and they tell that he will die in a worst manner. Here doctors know that Mano will die.
Karpagavalli is a brave women, she raises and controls a Tiger. In the real story its Yaamini she is brave enough to yell and insult Chokku and Poorna Chandra Roa when they offered money (this comes in the letter).
Karpagavalli raises a beautiful Tiger, here she raised Manonmani.
Tiger doesn't like Mutharasan and Uthaman in the start and later it accepts Uthaman after being guided by Karpagavalli. Here Manonmani does not like Mano (good or bad) in the start and later she accepts the good Mano (after revealing the letter).
The good minister took care of Karpagavalli and tried to make her the queen.
Zachariah took care of Manonmani and made her to meet her father.
Ottran is the link between Karpagavalli and Uthaman (other Raja, revealed finally)
Chokku is the messenger here.
Ottran is well known to Uthaman (hint given in a cut scene in secret chamber)
Chokku is with Mano throughout his career.
The chit from Karpagavalli never reaches next Raja.
The letter from Mano never reaches Yaamini.
Finally Uthaman is united with Karpagavalli and Uthaman is Mruthunjayan.
Here Mano dies and unites with Yamini (as she already died) and good Mano is Mruthunjayan through art here.
Overall this is a class movie.
This movie has almost all good aspects other than the poor comedy.
Relationship with lover, wife, son, daugther, Guru, PA, driver, fans .. all well explained..
Core concept is all has both a good and bad with us.. probably we wont accept the bad until a day comes.
